Why Still Standing has a diary

Why Still Standing has a diary

Why is she writing down her thoughts in a diary?

For herself? Or for others?

To make sure nobody forgets the lives the Children of the Dandelions have lived?
Or to bury her pain in letters, hoping that the next day will somehow be a little easier to face?

Of course, this is a made-up world.  A world I created.

But I think it is also a beautiful way of giving an artwork series a larger voice than what can simply be hung on a wall.

Not only because I want to give her and all less fortunate children a voice, but because I think that somewhere between her words and mine, something else might happen.

Every Thursday, she will tell you a little bit about what she sees, what she remembers, what she wonders about.

And sometimes, perhaps without making it too obvious, there might be something of me in there too.

Something that happened during the week.
Something in the world that stayed with me.
Something personal that made me sad, or happy, or simply made me think.

I am a rather private person — despite being very extroverted, and perhaps despite what people might think (I talk a lot).

My head is full of thoughts, stories, memories and observations that very few people ever get access to.

For years, while I was raising my children, that part of me was quietly put to rest.

And now, as my youngest has grown old enough, I have started to feel that part of myself emerging again.

And I realise I have missed her.

So perhaps Still Standing’s diary is not only a way for me to create her.

Perhaps it is also a way for me to recreate a little bit of myself.

I hope you’ll come along every Thursday for this new and rather unexpected twist in my 2026.

The first entry begins tomorrow.
