Second entry - Before I go came today
Share
Dear Diary,
Today I watched Before I Go.
He looks like a child. I suppose that is what makes it so easy to forget how old his soul must be.
I studied his coat today. I've seen it so many times before, but today I really looked at it. Every little detail. The worn fabric, the careful stitching, all the dandelions, the poppies resting in his crown.
I wondered how long he could keep going. How long can anyone carry so much and still move forward? I guess we all ask ourselves that sometimes. But he doesn't seem to.
The fields were overflowing today.
Summer is hard in a different way. Winter is cruel to many of them, but summer is worse. This is when they come. More and more Dandelion Children, filling the fields, trying to find their way.
I couldn't keep up with all of them today.
That's why Before I Go helped me out.
Together, we managed to turn many of them in the right direction. Not everyone who comes here has fallen. Some are simply lost. Some need someone to show them where forward is. We try to help as many as we can.
And then some fall. Those are the ones we bring back to camp.
We carry them because they can no longer carry themselves.
There is something profoundly admirable about Before I Go. When he rides across the field, the pounding of his horse's hooves makes everyone stop. Just for a split second. As if the whole world has paused.
And there he is — a boy covered in dandelions, racing through a field of souls, reminding them to keep moving.
Never stopping.
Sometimes he pulls them forward when their legs can no longer carry them. He believes so deeply in each one of them. And every single one needs to keep moving until they find that place called home.
Stopping is not an option.
This field is not a place to stay.
When we were done for the day, I watched him disappear into the flowers and into the horizon. I watched the golden line long after he was gone.
I wonder how long he can keep doing this.
And who will carry him when he can no longer carry himself...
Good night.
