Photography has always been my passion
I have been taking photographs since I was a teenager.
Back then, photography was a very different process. You put a roll of film into the camera, took your photographs knowing you wouldn't see the result until later, and hoped you had got the shot.
I did spend some time in a darkroom too, watching images slowly appear on photographic paper. But for me, the real fascination was always taking the photograph itself — noticing something, seeing a moment, and capturing it before it disappeared.
Photography has followed me ever since.
For roughly 35 years, I have photographed people, places, details, light, and whatever happens in front of me that makes me stop and look twice.
I’m especially drawn to people and the little things that happen in the moment — an expression, a gesture, an interesting face, a detail, a fleeting interaction. I like photographs that feel natural and uncontrived. Things that haven't been staged or polished into something they weren't.
My cameras have changed, the technology has changed, and the way I work with images has changed enormously.
But the fascination hasn't.
Today, photography is also an important part of my artistic practice. But I wanted to take a little step away from that for this post.
Because sometimes a photograph doesn't need anything added to it.
No layers.
No digital composition.
No story constructed afterwards.
Just the photograph.
So, here are a few of my favourites from the years — photographs I've taken simply because I liked what I saw.
And perhaps this is also a little reminder that before I became interested in building images, I was already very interested in taking them.
I've been doing this for about 35 years, after all.
